Silver Fleet at Lymington Optimist Flotilla

The Silver Fleet Captain is Pete Bell and he is in charge of organising race training for Silver Fleet Sailors on the Lymington River and Solent. There are over twenty sailors in the Silver Fleet, some of whom are more expereinced than others. You can see all the Silver Fleeters in the Members Area. Sailing in the Silver Fleet is challenging - sailors need to demonstrate good boat handling skills and be properly equipped before they can be allowed to sail with the Silver Fleet. On the river, there is plenty of traffic including the ferry that needs to be avoided and the strong Solent tides can be difficult for even the most skilled helms. Not all Silver Fleeters will always be able to sail on the river. In very windy conditions, especially with spring tides, it may be that less experienced sailors are asked to sail at the Salterns with the Bronze Fleet. Safety of the children is of paramount importance, as is their sailing experience. Nobody wants one bad day to put a child off sailing for life.
