2 Club Training - Spinnaker and Lymington
Optimist Race Training at
Lymington and Spinnaker Sailing Club 2007/08.
We are very pleased to offer members of both Lymington and Spinnaker Optimist fleets a series of coaching days throughout the winter.
The aim of this additional coaching is to support enthusiastic sailors with increased focus on their skills and to encourage their
development and improvement on the Optimist racing circuit. These days are in addition to existing club programmes.
This year children who have been sailing in the IOCA main fleet all year, will be training at Lymington or Spinnaker, with one date at Warsash.
Please read the form carefully before you submit it as it is the terms and conditions of attendance. All areas must be checked as read otherwise we will be unable to accept your child for the training. Please bring this completed document along with your payment with you on the first day at registration.

Groups
Sailors that are experienced IOCA main fleet sailors will be training.
Sailors must have sailed in the main fleet at IOCA events for the previous 12 months.
This is a minimum requirement.
Coaches
We will be employing the services of qualified coaches. By using the same coaches throughout the winter the sailors will get increased individual and focused attention.
All decisions relating to the ability of the sailors will be at the coach’s and the safety officer’s discretion and their decisions will be final.
Parents
- Parents or guardians must remain contactable and on site at all times and be available to receive their child at anytime.
- Sailors continue to be the responsibility of their parents at all times.
- Parents or guardians will be asked to support the programme by volunteering for duties as the need arises.
Eligibility requirements for boats are:
- a buoyancy endorsement
- third party insurance of at least £2,000,000
- Parents or guardians are entirely responsible throughout the training for themselves and their boats on land and at sea and nothing done or not done by the organisers or coaches of either Lymington Yacht Club or Spinnaker Sailing Club will relieve participants of their responsibilities for any harm to a competitor or boat however caused and by launching, it is implied that the boat is suitable and its helm is competent for any likely conditions.
It is a parent’s responsibility to:
- Ensure their child’s boat and equipment is suitable and properly maintained.
- Ensure their child’s ability, experience; clothing, food, fitness and temperament are suitable for the training.
- Ensure they and their child understands that instructions from coaches and the safety boats, must be followed while on the water. If a child is deemed to be too cold / unable to cope with the conditions and are taken ashore, he/she must accept this authority, as must the parent.
- Comply with all other directions from the coaches and safety boats when launching or beaching boats, or on the water in any capacity in the vicinity of the event.
Medical
All participants are required to complete the medical questionnaire. This information will be kept confidential, however it will be made available to the flotilla leaders, safety boat crews and coaches and anyone else concerned with the health and welfare of the child.
Communication
All sailors must provide details of their parent’s email and telephone number, including mobiles.
An excel spreadsheet will be circulated to all sailors with details of their parent’s/guardians emails and telephone numbers. By providing these details it is implied that circulation of this information is agreed.
The primary source of communication will be via email.
Venue
The training will take place at either Lymington or Spinnaker Sailing Club except for the last date, which will be at Warsash Sailing Club.
Fees
There will be a payment associated with the training, the rates yet to be determined. It is expected that the cost will be of the order of £100 for the series.
Payment can be made at registration on the first day of training Sun 25 Nov 2007.
Disclaimer
I give permission for my child to attend the Lymington/Spinnaker training.
I confirm that my child is physically fit and is capable of participating in the activities associated with the objectives of the training event. I agree to abide by the conditions of the training.
I declare that the boat sailed by my child is covered for third party insurance purposes to a minimum of £2,000,000. I warrant the suitability of the boat for the event. I accept that the good behaviour of my child is a fundamental requirement for participating, and that the organisers have the right to demand his/her removal for a gross violation of this requirement, if necessary for the well being and safety of the other participants. I understand that neither Royal Lymington Yacht Club or Spinnaker Sailing Club and the trainers and organisers cannot accept liability for any injury, loss or damage sustained by my child or to any of his/her property as a result of taking part in the event.
