The National Squad

Of the 32 sailors in the IOCA National 2006/7 Squad seven were from the Lymington Optimist Flotilla. You can see all the Lymington National Squad in the Members Area. These sailors have worked extremely hard to earn a place in the National Squad and will train throughout the year. They attend six weekend training sessions over the winter months.

Selection Criteria for the National Squad

The squads are formed in accordance with RYA guidelines. In order to be eligible for an Optimist Squad place the sailor must be an IOCA(UK) member, an RYA member, attend the National Ranking events and meet the age criteria, which requires the sailor to be under 15 on the 31st of December 2007. The squad is made up of the top six girls and top six boys drawn from the National rankings after the End of Seasons. The next fourteen sailors in the squad are drawn to boys or girls by order of ranking. Exceptionally four discretionary places in each squad may be agreed by the Selectors, particularly in cases of medical expediency, but otherwise these places will be be expected to be filled ty the next four places in the order of ranking.
